We are a professional married American couple from New York (not originally, but who is?), mid-30's, no children or pets and none intended, financially stable, both have new 3-year visas and are seeking permanent residency. Lewis works at an urban planning firm in the CBD as a public transit planner and consultant. Brandy is a free-lance artist and fashion designer. We have been in Auckland now for about 5 months. Now that the boring stuff is out of the way…
The coolest thing about us, I’d say, is that we quit our jobs 3 years ago to ride our bikes (the leg-powered kind) to South America. That’s right, we pedaled from the USA to Ecuador on bicycles loaded with all our luggage, something like 16000 km, through Arizona, Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and Ecuador, and even had a pop-over to Cuba. So I guess you could say we are adventurous. Instagram @brewistravels. We had to quit that life because we ran out of cash, and that’s what brings us to New Zealand. Lewis found a great opportunity here in Auckland and we said, why not?
We are relaxed, clean, eco-conscious, and social but not wild. We are in our 30’s but feel like we are in our 20’s. We want to explore NZ as much as possible. We have already biked out to the western foothills, explored the north lands and east coast beaches, and have tramped two of the great walks. Brandy is an avid snowboarder and Lewis is excited to learn, now that we are in a country with reasonable emergency care. Lewis doesn’t drink but he hangs out as if he does, and Brandy enjoys a social beer or glass of wine from time to time. We love nerdy boardgames of the European variety. We come with Settlers, Puerto Rico, Carcassonne, and Terraforming Mars. We love intellectual conversation when the mood strikes. We are not interested in TV but if there is one in the house that is not on constantly, we don’t mind it. We are mostly vegetarian and want to keep a garden if possible. At least an entire shelf in the fridge is a must. We cook at home usually but enjoy a meal out and are THRILLED by all of the Asian options. We are well-traveled and open-minded. We love live music and look forward to checking out NZ’s music festivals. We like friendly and honest people.
Perks to having us live with you… Brandy is an excellent creative problem solver, especially when it comes to rigging something that is broken or something that needs improvement. She comes with a sewing machine, so you will have your own seamstress. She enjoys working on bicycles and can fix most problems with them, or advise you on what it needs. Lewis loves cooking and baking and especially sharing! So expect cookies, and please help us eat them because he consumes too much sugar. I am sure there are other perks as well as negatives, but I can’t think of them right now and this is already too lengthy so… would you consider meeting us to see if we would be a good fit?
